Mozart in Russia and Other Tall Stories

Fantastical tales of opera form the basis of Sophie Pullen's new project at Kino Teatr in St Leonards on June 3/4.

Delving into the lives of singers who portrayed opera’s most famous characters, the show goes from feuding primadonnas of the bel canto era to death and drama in Paris opera houses and Russian novelists grappling with Mozart. Joined by mezzo soprano Amanda Martikainen and Sussex-based pianist Helen Ridout, Sophie will present works by Donizetti, Bellini, Massenet and Bernstein interspersed with classic pieces - The Flower Duet, Barcarolle, arias from Carmen and Onegin, and Ginastera’s exciting Danzas argentinas. Find out which composer’s pants fell down in front of Tsar Nicholas, which soprano’s lover died in the White Rock Pavilion and why Offenbach’s barcarolle should be sung in Russian. Tickets £13/£14/£15 from www.kino-teatr.co.uk.
