Old Town celebrates the joy of music with ukelele event

The Hastings Old Town Ukulele Group held their first ever Ukulele Weekend on June 17/18 organised by Teresa Beacham and Chris Green.

They promised “plenty of opportunity to play, sing, meet new people and be inspired,” and they and members of other ukulele groups played in various venues around the Old Town including The Nelson, Royal Standard, Jenny Lind, and The Albion. The lively atmosphere was infectious, with large audiences joining in the singing and dancing.

The Big Busk held in Butlers Gap in George Street was a great success with encores played at the end. Other groups playing were Cheap Dates, Opera-lele, Izzy Brinina, Hastings Ukeladies and The Pukes. The weekend was hugely popular and it’s hoped it will be held again next year.

The group meets on alternate Fridays at The Nelson from 8pm, all welcome.
