Summer music from Battle Choral Society

This is also being sung in conjunction with Battle festival which will held during the month of October.

When the choir discussed this next concert it was decided to change the usual format and make this more informal with totally different music, but the first half will still have more recognized composers with lovely pieces by very English composers Hubert Parry, Vaughan Williams and John Rutter, with a promising young baritone James Berry, as soloist.

The second half will see a selection of songs from popular musicals, such as Porgy and Bess and Les Miserables, Porgy and Bess and Ol Man River from Showboat. Publicity director Iva Barnes hopes these well known arrangements will send everyone away after the concert humming their favourite tunes. She commented; “We look forward as always, to welcoming our usual enthusiastic audience, and possibly some who have not attended our previous concerts, but might be attracted to the less formal music.”

Led as usual by musical director John Langridge, there will also be accompaniment from organist Richard Eldridge, and pianist Duncan Reid. Drinks will be sold in the interval.

The choir has been in existence for well over a hundred years and has about 80 regular singers, but is always happy to welcome anyone who wants to sing. Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings at Battle Memorial Hall at 7.30 pm. Details at www.battlechoral.co.uk.
