A superb night of jazz with award-winning musicians

Clark Tracey grew up in a jazz environment as the son of the late, great Stan Tracey and from an early age took to the piano and vibraphones.

At 13 he started playing the drums and began working with semi professional jazz groups until he turned professional at 17 in 1978 by joining his father’s various ensembles.

In 1981 he formed the first of his own groups with Django Bates, Iain Ballamy and Andrew Cleyndert. Clark has had 30 years’ experience playing alongside some of the most important artists in jazz at home and abroad. He has been awarded Best Drums title three times in the British Jazz Awards and Ronnie Scott’s Award for Best Drums in 2007.

Here he leads his current quintet consisting of the brightest and best younger players on the UK scene. Clark has appeared internationally on TV and radio and was featured in the movie The Talented Mr. Ripley. Clark is accompanied by a galaxy of jazz talent: Chris Maddock has performed at many prestigious events, venues and festivals including the Philip Lawrence awards at Bloomsbury theatre 2008, Swanage Jazz Festival 2011, Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2010 and 2011, Trondheim Jazz Festival 2011, The Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall (Proms Plus: Late, 2011) amongst others. He received the Mike Gibbs/BBC Big Band prize 2010 for big band arranging/composing. In 2012 he was awarded the Yamaha Jazz Scholarship for outstanding Jazz musicians in association with PPL and Jazzwise, and was presented with the award at Portcullis House (Parliament).

James Copus, who replaces Henry Armstrong Jennings in the quintet, has travelled the world playing with people like the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, the ‘Riverdance’ company and Basement Jaxx. He has also performed with established bands like the BBC Big Band and the London Concert Orchestra in some of the top venues around the U.K.

Harry Bolt is a London based jazz pianist and composer. In the summer of 2013 he became the youngest pianist ever to lead his own trio aboard the Queen Mary 2 Ocean Liner. On return, Harry was invited to join the prestigious Clark Tracey Quintet. The winner of the 2016 Musicians’ Company Young Jazz Musician Competition, bassist Daniel Casimir, is an electric and upright bassist based in London. He has recently graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire’s Jazz course. During his time at Birmingham Conservatoire, Daniel was taught by legendary and former Miles Davis’ Bassist Dave Holland and has played with Grammy nominated saxophonist Chris Potter. He has performed in several jazz festivals including South-End and Cheltenham Jazz festival and has played as far as Dubai (Burj Al Arab) and Norway (Trondheim jazz). Now predominately based in the capital, Daniel Casimir is an active participant to the vibrant London Music scene.
