Old hands and new faces in cricket team’s witty tale
Outside Edge by Richard Harris is at Partridge Green Village Hall from Wednesday to Saturday, June 3 to 6, at 7.30pm.
The production tells the story of a local cricket team preparing to face the might of the British Railways Maintenance Division Yeading East, but cricket seems to be the last thing on some people’s agendas.

Roger is the ultimate captain rallying his troops while ignoring his greatest strength, Miriam, his long suffering wife.
The day builds to a climax where it seems that everything must change forever. But will it? On the surface Roger and Miriam have the perfect marriage, but what really lies beneath their mutual adoration? Will the sleazy Dennis finally get his comeuppance? Where was Ginnie’s husband when he should have been preparing for the match?
And how will the beautiful, but socially inadequate, Sharon persuade Alex to take her home?

Hide AdThe play opened at the Hampstead Theatre in London on July 24, 1979, and in 1982 it was adapted for a one-off television play before becoming a sitcom in the mid ’90s.
Peter Hurrell has stepped off the stage for the first time to direct this ambitious production, and the cast is a mix of old hands and new faces.
Mark Fisher plays overbearing captain Roger and Esther Kingswell his wife Miriam. Grahame Blakey and Roz Richardson make their Players debuts as Bob and his wife Ginnie.
John De Little is sleazy carpet salesman Dennis, Peter Johnstone is little Kevin and Nicky Crofton plays his wife Maggie.
