Shakespeare's comedy in the great outdoors

It's hard to imagine a better way to enjoy one of Shakespeare's finest romantic comedies than in the grounds of a 16th century farmhouse.

Bowler Crab will perform All’s Well That Ends Well in the beautiful grounds of Half House Farm, Butchers Lane, in Three Oaks, just outside Hastings.

Started in 2013 by founder Stephen John - who is also director, producer and actor - Bowler Crab is a professional theatre company in its infancy with casts consisting of a combination of professional and experienced amateur actors, working their way forwards year by year.

Stephen said: “Bowler Crab’s approach to theatre is unique; with no set and few props, we present texts in a shape more thought-provoking than most. I endeavour to present literature on stage, not just entertainment, to tame the wide gap between the page and the stage.”

He added: “Bowler Crab is all about stripping everything that lies between raw talent and its consumption. We use no vocal aids or effects and, in doing so, have nowhere to hide. We have no superficiality here. I present plays which are traditional and vocally stunning rather than

modern and superficially excessive. Think of Bowler Crab as the theatrical hybrid of traditionalism and minimalism.”

“All’s Well That Ends Well is a rarely peformed comedy and, as director, it has been my most challenging but rewarding play thus far. This production features Shakespeare’s original language and narrative with physical comedy and vibrant new creative approaches to a text

which hasn’t been performed in Sussex for years.”
