Alice’s business, called Bee & Bear Bakery, was one of only 205 entries awarded a three-star Great Taste award.

Her Christmas pudding was described by judges as ‘truly classy’ and praised for its ‘indulgently moist texture’ and ‘plump and boozy fruit’.

Alice said: “It’s such an honour to be awarded three stars in 2020, a year which has presented endless challenges to everyone. We were the only Christmas pudding to receive the top accolade this year, indeed the first since 2015. It makes the win even more special, particularly when you consider they are all mixed by hand, by me, and steamed in our vintage Aga at home.”

The panel of judges this year included cook, writer and champion of sustainable food, Melissa Hemsley, cook, writer, stylist and voice of modern vegetarian cooking, Anna Jones, celebrated Spanish chef, José Pizarro, Kavi Thakrar from Dishoom, food writer and cook, Xanthe Clay, and baker and author, Martha Collison, as well as food buyers from Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason and Waitrose.
