You Raise Me Up provides practical, emotional and financial support for families who lose a child aged 16-25 unexpectedly.

The charity-s drop-in support centre in Polegate High Street has been forced to close during the Covid-19 crisis and several fundraising events due to take place in the summer have had to be cancelled.

The result, says the charity, is that it leaves YRMU in a vulnerable situation as it cannot raise money through the usual channels.

Charity manager Leesa Pattison said, “With the corona virus hitting us earlier this year and the government guidelines for social distancing and lockdown, we have had to either postpone or cancel all our fundraising events for the forseeable future as well as closing our coffee shop and support centre.

“To combat this, we have set up a crowdfunder page and are asking our local community, businesses, supporters and anyone else to help us raise much needed funds to keep the charity going through these difficult times.

“We have been lucky enough to be chosen by Crowdfunder as one of the charities that will match a proportion of the donations but we only have four weeks to reach our target.

“The appeal launched on May 6 so it is full steam ahead to meet the deadline.

“We understand times are uncertain financially for many of us and that’s why anything people can give will be so greatly appreciated by us, our families and the local community that use our services. Remember, the donations will be doubled by Crowdfunder.”
