Nursery market stall pair thrilled to be honoured

A green-fingered Southwater husband and wife team are absolutely thrilled to receive first place at last week’s Dressed for Success awards.

Sarah and John Knott, who run Forget Me Not Plants out of their back garden in Poppy Close, Southwater, won first prize for best dressed market stall at a black-tie event at South Lodge Hotel in Lower Beeding.

One of Horsham Market’s oldest stalls, based there since 2007, they operate in the Carfax every Thursday and Saturday.

Mrs Knott said they had received great feedback from customers on their display, and had contributed to almost doubling their turnover from last year.

“We were absolutely over the moon and were really really pleased,” she said.

“I think the market has been really popular in Horsham, and everybody is getting a bed fed up with the high street.”

Now in its third year, Dressed for Success is run by Horsham Unlimited, the town centre partnership run in conjunction with Horsham District Council, and sees shop owners compete in a variety of categories to make their shop front or window stand out on the high street.

Spofforths Chartered Accountants was the lead sponsor for the awards.

Mrs Knott added: “It makes the town look very bright, and all the people make an incredible effort.”

The award for best market stall display was sponsored jointly by Denne, Trafalgar and Forest Neighbourhood Councils, and while the Knotts had been highly commended last year, they said it was fantastic to claim first prize.

They were especially pleased that they were the only first place winners voted top by both the judges and the voters.

Forget Me Not Plants, running since 2004, specialises in unusual and rare perennials, and are currently offering seasonal planters for spring.
