GCSEs: Star performances at St Wilfrid's

Jesse O’Sullivan (10 A*/A grades), Toby Read (9 A*/A), Ajay Kansara (11 A*/A), Verity Howes-Yarlett (8 A*/A), Tom Daly (8 A*/A) and Roisin Bell (8 A*/A) were among the high-flyers from St Wilfrid’s School, Southgate, who picked up their results today (August 25).

Headteacher Michael Ferry said he was “immensely proud” of the achievements of his students, 69 per cent of whom earned at least five A*-C grades.

Some 19 per cent of those achieved the highest grades of A*-A in seven or more subjects.

Mr Ferry added: “They have worked extremely hard, as have the teachers who have supported them.

“This combined effort has seen us increase the number of the highest grades awarded this year and reinforces the fact that St Wilfrid’s students continue to make excellent progress.

“Congratulations to all of our students, we wish them well as they move into the next phase of their education or training.”

St Wilfrid’s also recorded a score of +0.2 in the new Progress 8, which measures the progress made by children between the time they leave primary school and the time they finish Year 11.

The baseline requirement for Progress 8 is a score of -0.5, so a score of +0.2 would tell the government children at St Wilfrid’s had made progress well in excess of national expectations during their time at the school.
