Bexhill school teachers build 100 visors for care providers

Victoria Robertson and Gary Steadman, from St Richard's Catholic College, have been working with the We are Design and Technology drive by teachers to provide the essential equipment required during this crisis.

More than 420 design technology departments are involved in the project, with more than 356,000 items of PPE manufactured and delivered by design technology departments nationwide.

Victoria said: "It has been great to be part of such a big movement within our much loved subject. The Design Technology community have been working with a real sense of the common good.

"All the PPE made is donated by the schools to help alleviate the dwindling nation's stocks for care workers.

"The DTA (Design Technology Association) produced designs for us to adapt for our individual laser cutters and 3D printers."

Victoria and Gary have produced 100 visors so far.

Victoria added: "The first few prototypes were slow as we tested and tweaked the designs, but we have become quicker and more proficient in the manufacturing.

"Fortunately, we have large, spacious workshops at St Richards and have been able to socially distance ourselves whilst batch producing the visors.

"Visors have been delivered to St Michaels Hospice, St Vincents and Orchard House residential Homes for the Elderly and more going to the Mill Croft Care Home."
