Camber care home '˜in breach of further regulations'

A care home in Camber has been told it requires improvement by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for the third time.

In its latest report – published on Friday – Camber Lodge’s services were deemed to be neither ‘consistently effective’ or ‘consistently well-led’.

The care home, located in Lydd Road, Camber, was given a ‘good’ rating for its safety, level of care and responsiveness.

Camber Lodge was previously inspected in October 2016 where it was found to be in breach of the Health and Social Care Act as ‘risks to people were not always managed safely, there were not enough staff working at night and the registered manager had not submitted appropriate notifications’.

In a follow-up inspection in October 2017, the CQC found the care home met the regulation in relation to staffing at night but said it still required improvement.

In the latest inspection, on September 24 and September 25, Camber Lodge was found to be in breach of further regulations, according to the CQC.

The CQC said: “We had received concerns about the service therefore we brought this unannounced comprehensive inspection forward to look at the concerns and all aspects of the service. We wanted to check that the provider had made improvements.

“This is the third time the service has been rated as requires improvement.”

In its report, the CQC made comments about the care home’s leadership.

It said: “At the previous inspection we identified concerns amongst the staff team, where some did not feel supported by the registered manager.

“Since that inspection there was a new registered manager in post and there had been significant changes within the staff team.

“Before the inspection concerns had been raised with CQC about the culture at the service. The registered manager acknowledged there had been difficulties when they started work at Camber Lodge, but improvements had been made since then.

“All staff spoke highly of the registered manager and of the changes that had taken place at the home.”

At the time of the inspection, Camber Lodge was caring for seven people and had the capacity to care for eight, the CQC said.

Camber Lodge refused to provide a comment for this story.
