Bexhill care home inspected after Covid-19 outbreak

Arden House, in Cantelupe Road, was rated ‘good’ in an inspection in September 2018.

But the CQC visited the care home last October following an outbreak of Covid-19.

In the report, inspectors said: “We were not assured that the provider was using PPE effectively and safely. Staff were not changing aprons or gloves when entering and leaving positive Covid-19 areas. There were no PPE stations outside Covid-19 positive people’s rooms and other PPE stations were not appropriately stocked. There were no pedal bins for the safe disposal of used masks, gloves and aprons.”

The CQC said ‘staff were open and transparent during the inspection’.

“Staff were kind to people and wanted to deliver good care,” the report added.

Jenny Miles, managing director of Angel Healthcare, which runs the home, said: “This CQC inspection was undertaken in October 2020 in response to a Covid outbreak.

“We are extremely grateful to the CQC for coming in at what was a very difficult and stressful time and highlighting our shortcomings, especially in relation to infection prevention control measures.

“This helped us ensure that the outbreak was contained and limited to a few residents and I am happy to confirm that nobody became seriously ill with the virus because of it.

“All areas mentioned that required attention have been fully addressed and we look forward to welcoming back the CQC as soon as possible to reinspect.”

Angel Healthcare also runs Abbey House in Bexhill and Glenmuir House in St Leonards, which have both been rated ‘good’ by the CQC.
