Hastings reports small spike in Covid-19 cases as Rother’s infection rate continues to drop

The town’s infection rate for the week ending February 26 was 74.5 cases per 100,000 people, according to the latest available figures from Public Health England.

The average infection rate for England in the week to February 26 was 91.2 cases per 100,000 people.

Hastings recorded 69 cases between February 20 and February 26, which was an increase of 12 cases compared with the previous week.

The slight increase in cases follows weeks of continuous declines in cases since the end of December, from a peak of 1,117 cases per 100,000 people in the seven-day period up to December 23.

Hastings’ rate of infection for the week to February 19 had dropped to 61.5 cases per 100,000 people.

In Rother, the rate of infection is continuing to drop, according to the figures, down to 32.3 cases per 100,000 people. There were 31 cases reported in the week to February 26.

Worthing is the only other town in Sussex reporting an increase in its Covid-19 infection rate.

Hastings: 74.5 cases per 100,000 people (69 cases between February 20 and February 26)

Eastbourne: 47.2 cases per 100,000 people (49 cases between February 20 and February 26)

Lewes: 46.5 cases per 100,000 people (48 cases between February 20 and February 26)

Rother: 32.3 cases per 100,000 people (31 cases between February 20 and February 26)

Wealden: 23.5 cases per 100,000 people (38 cases between February 20 and February 26)
