Eastbourne care home retains ‘good’ rating after inspection

Hill View, based in Willingdon, was awarded the rating by the Care Quality Commission after a planned inspection on March 13.

The service, which is a part of national care providers Regard Partnership, looks after adults with severe learning difficulties and complex needs including epilepsy.

The service received ‘good’ ratings throughout each individual category which includes safe, effective, caring, well-led and responsive.

The CQC’s report, published on April 21, said, “Staff supported people to take part in choosing activities to meet their individual needs and wishes. Some people loved train and bus rides, others liked swimming, bowling and cinema trips.

“Staff ensured people had regular opportunities to use cafes and restaurants and to visit the bandstand in Eastbourne.”

The health watchdog’s report said people were protected from the risks of harm, abuse or discrimination and that staff knew what actions to take if they identified concerns.

Inspectors said the home was ‘clean’ and ‘tidy’, and ‘enhanced’ cleaning had been put in place due to the risks of coronavirus.

The report also said, “Staff received training that helped them to deliver the care and support people needed. This included specialist training in autism, epilepsy and person-centred active support.

“Staff attended regular supervision meetings and told us they were very well supported by the registered managers.

“People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.”
