ARSON ATTACKS

The first one occurred just after 7pm on Saturday, at the public toilets near the Dinkum Pub.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue attended and dealt with it. The toilets suffered smoke damage as a result.

Later that evening, two bins were set alight next to the Co Op in the High Street.

Sussex Police have arrested a local man on suspicion of arson. He was interviewed at Eastbourne Custody centre, and later released on bail pending further enquiries.

Sergeant Dave Price said:, "Enquiries are continuing into these matters. The people responsible could potentially have caused a major fire in Polegate, and we treat such incidents very seriously indeed.

"We would like to hear from anyone who saw a man acting suspiciously at either scene, or from anyone who has any information about the incidents."
