Artist's colour secrets revealed

Daphne Ellman, a regular artist at the Bognor Regis Art Society, returned for another demonstration which had been meticulously sketched and planned.

Her planning decides what shape her final painting will be '“ portrait, landscape, square or oblong. She sketches her planned painting into each shape before choosing her final design.

Her technique of using acrylics in a watered down form produced her final image of the inside of a potting shed with its colourful contents of late summer garden produce.

She started by wetting the board thoroughly, before applying splashes of yellow where light will show through; applied hues of blue '˜where the sun don't shine!' and warm '˜pinky/orangys' in areas which would be more glowing and then finally getting all the sumptious colours of autumn into her artwork.

Members are now looking forward to her workshop on November 17 when she will advise and help associates to use her techniques to produce equally fine paintings.
