LINDA KEELEY: Denis, Ros and I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to send their condolences after the passing of mum. We have been overwhelmed by the kind cards, letters and number of people who attended her Funeral on Monday. Mum was involved in many things over her lifetime within the community and was much loved by many. She will be sorely missed.

MENS BREAKFAST: Ashburnham Church invites you to a Men’s Breakfast at Ashburnham Place on October 3, 8.30 a.m. Jason Newton, an Airline Pilot, will be talking about “A wing and a prayer - flying with faith and trying to soften the landing!” A warm welcome awaits all our guests. TRACTOR RUN: This years ‘Tingle’s Trundle’ is taking place on October 4, meeting at 11 a.m. at the field close to the Ash. Refreshments are available at the Ash but please book in advance. For further details, please call Brain Walker on 893438.
CHAPEL HARVEST: The Chapel will be holding their Harvest celebrations on October 4. The chapel will be open from 4 p.m. for viewing, followed by a tea at 5 p.m. Their Harvest thanksgiving Songs of Praise Service will follow at 6.30 p.m. which will be a great time of singing your favourite harvest hymns. The offerings from the service will be sent to Water Aid. All are welcome to attend.
COFFEE MORNING: The next Coffee Morning is on Monday, October 5 & 19 in the Church Hall, Ashburnham Place 10.30 a.m. - 12 p.m. You are welcome to go along for a good friendly chat.
PUB QUIZ: The Ash Tree Inn are holding their next Pub quiz on October 6, at 7.45 p.m. Entry is £1/person and a set meal of £5 can be ordered. Please call them on 892104 for further details.
2M@1: The next meeting of 2M@1 is on October 12, 1 p.m. at Ashburnham Church Hall. Their speaker will be Dr Brian Hick from the Seaview Project...offering help and inspiration for people living on society’s margins. Everyone is very welcome to join us
QUIZ NIGHT: A Quiz Night is being held on Sarurday, October 17 at Ashburnham Village Hall, 7 p.m. The cost is £10 per person to include a supper and entry into the raffle. WI: Ashburnham & Penhurst WI are next meeting on Monday, October 19, 7.30 p.m. at Ashburnham Village Hall. Following their business of their AGM, they will be holding a Beetle Drive (speed dating for insets!). Visitors and new members are always welcome.
VILLAGE LUNCH: The next Village Lunch is on October 21, at Ashburnham Village Hall, 12.30 p.m. Lunch is cooked every month for any older residents in the villages who would like a bit of company and a delicious meal. PARISH COUNCIL: The net Ninfield and Penhurst Parish Council meeting will take place on October 21, 7.30 p.m. at Ashburnham Sports Pavilion. All residents of both villages are welcome to attend.
CHAPEL COFFEE MORNING: Ashburnham Chapel are holding a coffee morning on October 26 10.30 a.m. - 12 p.m. All are welcome to join them.
GARDENING CLUB: Ashburnham and Penhurst Gardening Club are next meeting on Monday, October 26, 7.30 p.m. in Ashburnham Church Hall. They will begin with their Annual General Meeting and then will follow with a bring-and-share home grown supper and quiz. There will be a chance to sign up for membership for the coming year.
BOOK GROUPS: October’s book is “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas” by John Boyne. 9 year old Bruno lives outside the fence of a nazi concentration camp and befriends Shmuel, a boy in ‘striped pyjamas’ on the other side of the fence. The novel traces Bruno’s gradual journey from blissful ignorance to painful knowledge and explores the abuse of power by adults and the powerlessness of children. The evening book group will meet at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27 at Ashburnham Place. The afternoon book group will meet at Brown Bread Street Cottage at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 30. MI: November marks a favourite night in the MI calendar - Brewery Trip Night! Their ‘pilgrimage’ to Harvey’s at Lewes, followed by a meal, is on November 2.
