RYE has an auction gallery again just a month after Rye Auction Gallery at Rock Channel closed its doors.

The long-standing business, which employed five staff, blamed the closure on competition from online auctions and internet shopping.

But now auctioneer Kevin Wall has set up his own gallery at Rye Harbour Road under the name of Rye Auction Galleries Ltd.

Kevin has employed two full time members of staff and one part time member, along with family members.

The gallery will be holding two sales a month on Fridays with antiques and collectables on the first Friday of the month and a general auction on the third Friday.

The first auction takes place today (Friday) getting underway at 9.30am.

Kevin said: “There has been great public support for the gallery.

“I would like to thank members of staff, friends, family and especially all those that have helped with time, support and materials.”

There has been an auction gallery in Rye since 1872 and many rare and sought after items have gone under the hammer is recent years.

The new business is based at Unit 36, Rye Industrial Park, Rye, TN31 7TE. Tel: 01797 222650.
