Azur staff are ready for thebig 1066 tourist invasion

Sussex Coast College Hastings created a special customer service college course funded by the Government’s Community Learning Fund for staff at Azur at the Marina Pavilion in St. Leonards on Sea as part of the 950th anniversary of Hastings.

Due to the celebrations being organised this year as part of the ROOT 1066 celebrations incorporating the whole of the 1066 Country, Hastings and St. Leonards are expecting a huge increase in visitors to the Borough and the surrounding District and as such want to make sure that visitors receive an excellent standard of customer service whilst here.

The specialist course aimed at promoting customer service excellence and designed for the retail, hospitality and passenger service providers echoed the World Host customer care course which Azur received back in 2014.

Azur staff received their customer service awards from Cllr Jimmy Carroll The Chairman of Rother District Council and Lord Brett McLean Chairman 1066 Country Federation of Small Businesses and Chairman of the Sussex Strategic Business Board.

Councillor Carroll said “I am delighted to present these certificates recognising excellence in customer service as the whole of the Rother and Hastings area are highly dependant on tourism and therefore it is vital we make the right impression to visitors as well as residents.”

Lord Brett said “ This is a great example of how businesses and colleges can work together to help improve the local economy.”

Hastings Borough Council has commissioned the ROOT 1066 International Festival to mark the 950th Anniversary of the most famous date in English history.

It will be a contemporary, multi-art form festival, that will take place in September and October this year.

The aim of the festival is to create a major event for Hastings and 1066 Country, with new commissions and collaborative projects from national and international artists and raise the profile of Hastings and 1066 Country nationally and internationally, and attract visitors to the area.

The main festival period will run through September, culminating on the weekend of October 1 and 2.

The festival will also explore the legacy of cultural changes instigated by the Norman Conquest and illuminate lesser known aspects of the battle and its aftermath.
