Bathtime has bean tins of fun in pyjamas

Helen Parr and Sarah Flower spent four hours immersed in a tub full of baked beans.

Their stunt in pyjamas was in aid of tomorrow's BBC Children in Need appeal.

Helen and Sarah raised 730.38 for the annual occasion when donations for their unusual bathing method were added to proceeds from a raffle.

They performed their charity act using 30 catering-sized tins of the popular beans and tomato sauce in the front window of the Splits sandwich shop in Chichester Road.

Sandmaker maker and server Helen (39), of Aldwick, said towards the end of their session: "It's been cold but it has been fun.

"It's a laugh knowing we are doing it for charity.

"The expressions on peoples' faces has been the best bit. They don't see us at first and then they turn round and they're shocked."

She raised money for Children in Need four years ago by dressing up as a mummy with a colleague at her former work place.

Hygiene rules meant that was impossible at Splits so the baked beans in a bath were suggested.

Her fellow sandwich maker Sarah (37), from Bognor Regis town centre, agreed to join in. "People have been saying we are mad to do this," she stated.

The bath was loaned by nearby firm Plumbase. Many local shops also helped towards the fundraising by giving prizes for the raffle.
