A show that pays tribute to one of the unsung heroes of the First World War and written by two musicians from Battle is to be performed at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios.

The Dreamers is being staged at the venue for four premiere performances on December 7 and 8, marking the first time in history a musical has been performed there.

Created and written by James Beeny and Gina Georgio, The Dreamers is being directed by Jean-Pierre Van Der Spuy, choreographed by Lee Proud, and performed by a top West End cast.

The performances at Abbey Road Studios are being co-produced by Stars Foundation for Cerebral Palsy.

All profits from the show are being donated to the charity.

Inspired by true events, The Dreamers tells the moving story of Captain Reggie Salomons, who led his regiment to the Battle of Gallipoli in 1915.

On an ill-fated voyage to the battlefield, Reggie struggles to hold his unit together when a bitter and jealous recruit, Jack Hastings, stirs trouble among the men.

Disaster strikes when their ship crashes, and amid the chaos, Reggie and Jack are thrown together.

The Dreamers was initially staged as a concert in 2013 at the Assembly Hall Theatre in Tunbridge Wells. Following the performances, the writers and creative team were invited to take The Dreamers to the St James Theatre in Westminster for a two-week run in July 2015.

Since then, an album of songs from the show has been recorded at Abbey Road Studios, which will be released as a special edition copy at the premiere performances in December.

James and Gina said: “Having spent five years working on The Dreamers, we are thrilled to see our musical come to life as a full-scale production, and it is a real privilege to work with such a talented cast and creative team.

“The Dreamers has already gone through several stages of development and evolution, but we feel that we are only at the start of what is going to be an incredible journey for everyone involved.

“We are delighted our show is being staged at Abbey Road Studios, especially as The Dreamers album has been recorded there.

“It is an honour to see The Dreamers being woven into the fabric and history of this iconic space.”
