The extracts from the School log book are changing: to mark the fact that Beckley WI is celebrating being in existence for 100 years and the anniversary of the end of WW1 …..the extracts will now come from Beckley C of E School The War Years. The entries are still being made by Mr Blackmore who was head for 35 years!
20.07.14: Admitted Frederick James (stayed until 06.04.17 – Broad Oak - readmitted 11.06.17).
22.07.14: Letter from Dr Foulerton in which it is stated that Walter Sauter may attend school. Sent notice to parents.
24.07.14: Mr W Goaring Gardening Department – Lewes – visited on Thursday and said the school garden plots looked well, were neat, clean and well filled up.
30.07.14: Case of stationery arrived this week. On Wednesday afternoon the “boy Scouts” went for an outing – this made the attendance for that meeting smaller by 7. The arrangement by which the school is worked in three divisions is not good. None of the teachers are satisfied with the work they are able to do. A fourth teacher is absolutely necessary if the children are expected to make good progress. The school closes this afternoon until Tuesday morning 4th August. The Managers have allowed the use of the rooms for the annual tea meeting of the Beckley Women’s Provident Society.
If you miss the Victorian entries why not buy a copy of “Diary of a Victorian Schoolmaster” or its companion book ‘Beckley C of E School The Victorian Years.’ Available to buy at the school office. A donation from each book sold goes towards the Beckley School Association.
