BADMINTON player Robin Whitlock has reached his 90th birthday still hitting the shuttles.

Binsted resident Mr Whitlock celebrated the birthday last week among his friends at Littlehampton Badminton and Squash Club.

He has been a member there for almost 40 years and is a regular sight on its courts on Thursday nights.

He said: “It’s a nice bit of fun. It gets me socialising with people and it’s a bit of exercise.

“I think being active – and I also walk my Alsatian dog for an hour every day – helps to keep you going. I’ve no intention of giving up badminton.

“I’ve always said to the other members they should let me know when they think I’m not good enough and I will pack up.”

Club chairman David Beatty said: “We are proud and delighted to have Robin as a member. He is an inspiration to us all.”

Mr Beatty presented Mr Whitlock with a lifetime membership of the club to celebrate his latest birthday.

Another member also baked a cake for everyone to enjoy.
