Bodiam village voice

n THE village cricket club is away to Netherfield on June 10, start at 2.30pm.

n I did not know that Ellen Archers in the village played a part in the smuggler life.

The tiny window in the south-facing tiled roof held a lantern which was lit as a means of all clear.

The excise men were not in the area so the smugglers rowing up the Rother could offload their silks and brandy.

I hope my friends from the National Trust do not read this as they might like to open it up.

Perhaps that is not a bad idea. Ellen Archers is a very nice house.

n A date for the diary - the June parish council meeting is on June 25, 7pm in the Parish Room.

n We all have a lot to say about our police (and I say a lot) but we must be appreciative of PCSO Demetrius Georghiou’s work. He is the PCSO for Bodiam.

For the first village Road Safety Awareness Week, Demetrius has told me that he would like to do the awareness week again this year.

n It is all roads to Bodiam Castle Inn on Jubilee weekend (Sunday) with live music on June 3 from 8.30pm. Also early in the day the Levetts Lane Residents Association will have a Jubilee tea to start at 2pm with music from Vera, Pam and Phyllis, who will start with God Save the Queen. And today, Friday, the pre-school has a jubilee street party at 11am in the Parish Room. All welcome.

n A huge thank you to all who contributed towards the pre-school jumble sale that made £173. It wouldn’t have been possible without you all.

I must say about all the children from our primary school who came to the jumble sale how polite they were, with please and thank yous. Well done to the school and parents.
