Bognor Regis Guild looks at the past year

Bognor Regis (Evening) Trefoil Guild opened 2008 with a look-back at some of its activities during the past year.

Joint chairman Nancy Welch, reminded the meeting of illustrated talks on a visit to Thailand; an amusing recollection of hop-picking in Kent years ago; dancing with INSA during World War II; and the inside story of Kew Gardens.

Members learnt about homeopathy and tried their hands at making Christmas crackers, while a variety of quizzes kept everyone busy.

The guild's 21st birthday party was a great success, as was the holiday in the Shetland Islands organised by its Shetlander member Gretta Williamson and enjoyed by six members. Monthly walks, arranged by co-chairman Peggy Carrott, an outing to Mottisfont Abbey, putting at Felpham, and a sponsored walk in support of the Scout Flame Project for Scouting's centenary were outdoor events.

A tea-party and coffee-morning supported various charities and the guild attended county events and met other Trefoil guild members at ocial gatherings.

Nancy thanked the outgoing officers for their support and made especial mention of Jean Haddon who had been treasurer for many years.

The new committee was elected '“ chairman Jean Edney; secretary Jean Foyle; treasurer Barbara Pipe, with Carol Andrews committee member, and others to be co-opted when necessary. Thinking Day, in February, when the joint birthdays of Lord Robert and Lady Olave Baden-Powell, founders of Scouting and Guiding are remembered worldwide, was celebrated in Bognor by a Shetland evening.
