She attended counselling where she revealed she had experienced personal problems in the past, including a problematic relationship, and had started to feel 'low and depressed'.

On leaving the Army, she was going to work with her father but then accepted a job at a nursing home. In a statement read out during the inquest, mum Susan Horner said the last time they spoke everything was fine.

Ms Schofield also heard a statement from Emma's housemate who said she had seen her the evening before when she had been 'laughing and in quite a good mood'.

However, the inquest heard Emma did have an argument with her girlfriend a few days before her death.

A post mortem at St Richards Hospital, in Chichester, revealed Emma died from asphyxiation and hanging.

Ms Schofield said although Emma had not left a suicide note, the coroner's finding was that she took her own life.
