Northiam Bonfire Society has donated to good local causes such as the school crossing patrol and the Mary Shipstone Memorial Fund.

Cheques were presented when the Society held a recent thank you evening in the Rose and Crown at Beckley for everyone who helped with last year’s procession and bonfire.

The street collection was shared by Northiam Seniors’ Club, the School Crossing Patrol and the Mary Shipstone Memorial Fund.

Donations were also made to Raynet, Rye and District Lions and St Mary’s Church for their invaluable help on the night, and heartfelt thanks given to Alice, at the Rose and Crown, for her amazing support throughout the year.

In all over £1,000 from the 2014 event has been given to local good causes.

Planning is already underway for an even better event this year. The next fund-raising event will be a Race Night in the Rose and Crown on February 21, starting at 7pm.

Pictured are cheques presented by Northiam Bonfire Society Chairman Nick Searle to Geoff and Linda Fairhall, Northiam Seniors’ Club; Joan Pearson, St Mary’s Church; Raynet; Mr Montebello, Head of Northiam Primary School, with the School Crossing Patrol Pat Brabon.
