BOY, 10, SAVED MUM'S LIFE

A little boy who saved his mum's life is in line for a bravery award.

Quick-thinking 10-year-old Joshua Rudd, a pupil at Cradle Hill School, Seaford, came to the aid of his mother and unborn sister.

Mum Pennie, 29, was eight-and-a-half months pregnant when she collapsed at her home after suffering a mild stroke.

It left her unable to speak or move the right side of her body. But luckily she was discovered by Joshua who was off school with flu.

When he realised his mum was seriously ill, he phoned their family GP to explain what had happened.

The doctor told Joshua to call an ambulance, so he could talk through what was happening with an emergency operator until the paramedics arrived.

Pennie was rushed to the Eastbourne District General Hospital and Joshua was allowed to ride in the front of the ambulance all the way.

Sussex Ambulance Service press officer Janine Bell said: 'We have heard what this little boy did. Not only was it exceptionally quick-witted of the boy but also very brave considering the circumstances.'

Thanks to Joshua's decisive action, Pennie's pregnancy was saved and she recovered well from the stroke. Three weeks later she went on to deliver a healthy baby girl called Molly.

Janine Bell added: 'We would really like to have a chance to recognise his actions and would ask his mother to contact us, so we can present him with a certificate and take him around the control room to meet the staff.'
