BREAKING: Child seriously injured after Battle hit and run

A child has been involved in a collision with a vehicle in Battle this afternoon.

Police say officers were called to the scene on the A2100 Battle Hill where the boy, a pedestrian, had been hit by a car at around 4.20pm.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said the child has been air lifted to hospital with potentially serious injuries.

Police say a small silver hatchback car travelling eastbound collided with the 12-year-old boy.

The car left the scene and officers traced the vehicle to Hastings.

The boy was taken by air ambulance to Kings College Hospital, London. At this stage the injuries are believed to be serious.

A 45-year-old woman from Hastings has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop and driving under the influence of drugs.

Sergeant Dan Pitcher from East Sussex Road Policing Unit said: “The road was partially closed for just over an hour whilst emergency medical care was administered.

On Twitter, Rother Police reported the A2100 has been closed as a result of the collision and advise motorists to seek an alternative route.
