BREAKING NEWS: Fire rips through West Beach sand dunes

FIREFIGHTERS are battling a blaze on the protected sand dunes in West Beach.

A substantial amount of smoke has been reported to the command and control centre of West Sussex Fire and Rescue (WSFR), with flames reportedly rising to around 10ft.

Two crews from Littlehampton are currently on scene fighting the blaze, which is believed to have caught shortly before 1.30pm, this afternoon (Tuesday, July 16).

A spokeswoman from WSFR said that no one is believed to be injured and that the incident is ‘under control’.

“Two cars and a patch of grass measuring eight metres by ten metres is currently on fire.

“However, it’s all under control and there is nothing to worry about.”

At this stage it is not known how the fire started.
