Breastfeeding mums are welcome in new '˜Baby Café'
New mums and mums-to-be are invited to celebrate the launch of Britain's newest Baby Café in Hastings.
Baby Café, established in 2000, is a national network of breastfeeding drop-ins, combining breastfeeding information with a relaxed, informal environment where mums can chat and learn about breastfeeding from skilled practitioners and each other.
The new Baby Café will be launched with a party (face painting, bunting making, refreshments) on Friday 8th April at Friends Meeting House, South Terrace, Hastings. Thanks to a grant from The Big Lottery Fund, this service will be free to all local pregnant and breastfeeding mums.
Hastings Baby Café facilitator, Trudie Betts said: “We are thrilled to launch the newest Baby Café, which will offer community support for breastfeeding women in Hastings, and enable them to breastfeed for longer.”
Baby Café is a national network of breastfeeding drop-ins, combining the expertise of skilled practitioners and mothers to offer invaluable support to parents at all stages of breastfeeding in a professional but non-clinical, café-style environment.
Baby Café has over 100 drop-ins around the UK, supporting up to 10,000 mums a year. They are open to all those interested in any aspect of breastfeeding – mothers, partners, supporters – and take place once a week in children’s centres or community venues.
Baby Café became a charitable trust in 2005 and then in 2010 Baby Café merged with NCT, the UK’s largest charity for parents, to help more mums who want to breastfeed.

The Baby Café organisation was started by Catherine Pardoe and Julie Williams in 2000. The charity works to promote the physical and psychological health of mothers and children through education and training regarding breastfeeding.
The charity’s intention is that all mums will be able to access the information and support they need to breastfeed. For more information call 0844 243 6024 or e-mail [email protected]
