Bully makes child's life a living hell in Bognor

Parents of a child who has been left traumatised by a bully at his school in Bognor Regis are threatening to take him out unless it stops.

Brandon Freeman who goes to Nyewood Junior School has been punched and kicked on a daily basis for the past year.

On one occasion, the eight year-old was left tied up to a fence in the playground with a skipping rope around his neck. He has also had his head rammed into a glass door. His treatment has left his parents Sharon and Terry Harris wondering where to turn for help.

The school has held meetings with Brandon's parents as well as with parents of the bully, but they do not feel it is enough.

Mrs Harris said: "If this was someone going to work every day and someone was doing that, they would be told to go, so why should an eight-year-old be put through it?

"We have threatened to take him out of the school until something is sorted out."

Brandon was diagnosed with leukemia when he was three, which means he missed his early years of education and is academically behind the children in his year. His mum thinks this could be why he is being targeted.

He has also recently been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. She said: "The poor kid has been through enough in his life. Why should he have to go through this?

"We just want this resolved. Every child is entitled to go to school and feel safe. The problem is close to my heart because I was bullied as a child.

"He doesn't usually sleep very well, but over the summer holidays he was fine, up until just before he went back to school."

The parents have also been in contact with Bognor Regis and Littlehampton MP Nick Gibb in their search for a solution.

Mr Harris said: "I have lost count of the number of times I have been in to the school. We get a lot of apologies, but nothing is being done. They might be having meetings about it but nothing is happening. He's got a different idea of school now, because he goes there and he knows what is going to happen."

Headteacher Jane Wells said: "The school has a statement/policy about bullying and takes all allegations very seriously.

"Incidents are looked into and investigated as appropriate. In this instance, the school is actively working with both families to try to resolve the situation.

"School procedures are followed in terms of disciplinary action. On Monday afternoon, we had a further meeting, the second this term, with the alleged bully's mother."
