Burglaries linked

FOUR burglaries over the last week in Steyning and Upper Beeding have been linked by the police.

PC Mike Dowling, from Steyning police station, said the first burglary occurred in Hyde Street, Upper Beeding in the early evening of last Tuesday, September 6.

The thief got into the house through an open bedroom window and stole some jewellery and a briefcase. The contents of the briefcase, including credit cards were taken, and it was left empty on the front lawn.

Three silver necklaces, two silver earrings and two platinum rings were stolen from the home.

Two homes were broken into in Dawn Crescent, Upper Beeding, over night between last Wednesday and Thursday. A handbag, containing credit cards was stolen from one and a handbag, video camera and car keys were stolen from the other house.

The last burglary happened on Sunday evening, when an elderly woman, who was sleeping at her home in Newham Lane, Steyning, when a burglar poked his head through her bedroom window and took two jewellery boxes.

The woman woke up to see the man lean over from the window and take the two boxes. One of the boxes was navy blue and the other was wooden.

The man is described as white and in his early 20s.
