The Musical Meerkats will beging again today. This group for the youngest of our families will help them to learn about movement and music and the instruments that make it. There will be 7 classes this term at £35 for the fist child, a brother or sister can go for £28. The classes will be held in the Burwash village hall from 10am. Classes will also be held at Bricklehurst manor School on Tuesdays from 9.30am. This eight week cours will be £40 or £32 for siblings. The Fun Bridge afternoon is being held today at the Pavilion in Burwash Common. Kick of is 12.30pm with a light lunch and the fun game of bridge will begin at 2pm. Tickets are £10 and you may still be able to get one if you call Anne Gray 01435 882442 early this morning. All proceeds will be given to Breast Cancer Breakthrough Appeal.

The 1st Burwash & Etchingham scout group will be holding their Annual General Meeting on Tuesday in their headquarters in the Bear car park from 6.30pmThey are always pleased to welcome aboard new committee members and leaders. If you are interested go along to the meeting or call emanuel Flecken on 01435 882764.

The Burwash Ladies group will have there next meeting on Wednesday in the Burwash village hallat 2.15pm. The members will hear Brion Purdy on Sussex Customs and Cures. The groups visit this month will be on 26th to Chapel Down Vineyard and Smallhythe Place Tenterden. They are always pleased to welcome new members and visitors.

The Burwash Horticultural Society Rose, Sweetpea and Delphinium show will be held in the Pavilion on Swan Meadow, Burwash on 15th June. Schedules are available from the burwash Newsgaents, and entries can be returned on the morning of the show. This year they will also include art, craft and children’s classes. All local amateur artists, quilter, sewers & embroiderers, knitters, potters, glassworkers, woodworkers are welcome to enter. The children’s two classes are a) a garden on a plate and b) three iced or decorated cup cakes. See the schedules for the full details.

Last Friday the team had their first match of the season with a home fixture against Little Common. Little common opened the batting and it was soon evident that Rose Rainton hadn’t gone rusty over the winter as she scored 93, runs of the total 185 from 13 overs, Tracy 47 & Sarah 20. Burwash gave a good fight despite being a bit light of players. They finished on 141, Jo Baldwin 58, Nicky Matthews 38 & Toni Wheatley 21. On Sunday Jo & Toni played in the East sussex team against North Division in a 35 over match. North batted first and made 63 from 23 overs. East past that with a terrific innings from Sandra Gorringe in just 6 overs. They will now play in the semi-finals on 16th June at Littlehampton.
