A date has been set for the relocation of Burwash Post Office.
It will move along the High Street in the village to Burwash Stores on Thursday, December 3 at 1pm.
Services will be provided throughout shop opening hours on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 6am to 8pm, and on Wednesday, from 6am to 7pm.
Bosses at the Post Office said this will offer an extra 51 hours a week of Post Office service including all-day Sunday and Saturday afternoon. The branch will also open significantly earlier and close much later every day.
Burwash branch would be a local plus style branch with enhanced services including manual banking (non-barcoded transactions), Transcash, and Royal Mail and Parcelforce Worldwide International parcels, the company said. Payment by cheque will still be accepted.
There will also be improved accessibility as the proposed premises has a wide door and level access, whereas there are steps at the current branch at Alma House, High Street, Burwash.
The current branch will close with the current postmaster’s agreement on Wednesday, December 2 at 5.30pm. An alternative branch during this transfer will be at Etchingham Post Office, High Street, Etchingham.
Burwash Stores is 12 metres away from the post office.
In 2012, the Post Office announced a £1.34 billion investment to undertake a transformation programme across 6,000 branches.
Will Russell, regional manager, said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Burwash and we are confident this new modern post office service will meet the needs of the community and secure services for the future.
“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
