Burwash Post Office is proposing to move along the High Street to Burwash Stores at the end of the year.
The move would mean extended opening hours and improved accessibility as the services would be provided at the shop counter instead of at a separate screened desk.
All services would remain the same and customers are invited to share their views in a six-week public consultation which started today.
Regional Manager Will Russell said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Burwash and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
The company say the move will provide an open-plan environment as part of a national modernisation programme.
Services would be provided throughout shop opening hours - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6am – 8pm, and Wednesdays 6am – 7pm.
This would offer an extra 51 hours a week of Post Office service including all-day Sunday and Saturday afternoon.
There would also be improved accessibility as the proposed premises has a wide door and level access whereas there are steps at the current branch at Alma House.
Burwash Stores is 12 metres away from the post office.
The consultation will close on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 and the proposed move month is November/December 2015.
Submissions can be made during the consultation by freepost, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, or by calling the customer helpline on 08457 223344 or textphone 08457 223355.
Customers can also share their views online through a questionnaire at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 060925.
