Jill Jarrett, Henley Down Cottage
I hope you’ve all enjoyed a happy and peaceful Christmas, how quickly it’s over after all the time spent thinking about it and making preparations! Now we’re looking towards the New Year of 2014 and wondering what lies ahead for us all - and for the wider world too.
The Under-Five’s pre-Christmas Nativity play was a delightful production, the children were so nicely behaved and dressed in lovely costumes. It was well-supported by families and friends and the noise level rose considerably when it was over, there was also a huge raffle.
Catsfiel’d first football team will be away to Wadhurst on Saturday 4th January and the second team will be playing at home to Hawkhurst.
The Burn’s Night Dinner will be on Saturday 25th January in the Village Hall at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10 per person for a three course dinner to include a ‘wee dram’ and will be on sale until 20th January. Call Sandra on 01424 774708 to reserve your tickets for this special fundraising event for the parish church of St Laurence and watch this space for details of further events planned in February and March.
The first WI meeting of 2014 will be on January 2nd 2014 at 2pm, when the speaker will be Michael Hoad with a talk entitled ‘Mystery Armchair Coach Tour’. Members are reminded that their subscription renewal for the year will be due on that day at £34.70. Such great value for money when you consider all the advantages – monthly meetings with old and new friends, interesting speakers, quizzes etc, trading stall and raffle, outings to the theatre and other places, Scrabble and Rambling groups, opportunities to learn new skills and ALWAYS a wonderfully delicious WI tea, which is worth the subscription fee alone!
The Parish Communion service for the Sunday after Christmas Day will be at the usual time of 9.15am this Sunday, 29th January.
The WI meeting in January has had to be changed to Thursday 9th January at 2pm as work is being done on the floor of the Village Hall.
There will be no Catsfield Village Voice next week on 3rd January, as it had to be submitted by 19th December and I couldn’t see THAT far into the future! I wish all our readers a very happy, healthy and peaceful New Year and the Catsfield column will be back on 10th January 2014. Do let me know if you have anything of interest to Catsfield readers that you would like me to mention. Either email to firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 01424 830403
