There are one or two vacancies, so if you’re not doing anything, why not pop along and join in? The cost is just £3 for a main course, dessert and tea or coffee. Try it once and you’re bound to want to come again next week.

The church service this Sunday is Parish Communion at the usual time of 9.15am. The Sunday School and the Triple S Group enjoyed a barbeque on Sunday afternoon at Pigknoll Farm, the home of Bob and Jane Andrew. Amazingly, the weather was kind after a wet and windy night and everyone had a great time walking through the woods, enjoying the play equipment and filling the swimming pool to capacity.

The Summer Show Schedules are available in the village shop now for the big event on Saturday 4th August. It sounds a long way off, but now is the time to start planning your entries. There’s a great selection of classes for the children, gardeners, cooks, flower arrangers, photographers, handicraft people – in fact EVERYONE, so no excuse not to enter and make this the best show yet!

The village hall was filled with laughter, cheers, and groans on Friday evening. the Beetle Drive was under way, competition was fierce as children, parents, grandparents and friends fought to win. Mike Cooper did his best to keep control, while Sandra and Richard Shoobridge were kept busy behind the bar. The raffle was drawn at half-time, prizes included a beautiful basket of fruit donated by Great Park farm, thank you Tim for your support. After refreshments, things hotted up and after much adding up, Janet Woolf was declared the winner. A fun time was had by all and £168 was raised for St Laurence church funds, many thanks to Sandra and Linda for all their hard work. 

The WI Strawberry Teas in the village hall last Saturday had slightly fewer people than usual coming to enjoy this traditional English summer treat – maybe put off by the traditional English summer weather that we’ve experienced lately! The hall looked most attractive with the tables set for tea and decorated with vases of garden flowers. There was a steady trickle of people throughout the afternoon, including a passing couple from the Normanhurst Caravan Park, who sat at a table outside with their dog and enjoyed the delicious strawberries and cream, with homemade scones and jam. The great sum of £134 was made for our charity ‘East Sussex Admiral Nurses’ and the cake stall raised £73.50 for WI funds at the end of a very pleasant afternoon.

The Jubilee Exhibition in Hermon Cottage, which was repeated by special request last Saturday, received a steady flow of appreciative visitors and the raffle raised money for the History Group’s funds. The Village Archive is kept in the village hall and is available for access by the public by special request. The History Group meets fortnightly from 7-9pm and their next meeting will be on Tuesday 10th July.

Have you picked up a copy of the very informative leaflet in the village shop entitled ‘Catsfield Church of England Primary School High Weald Welly Walk’? It describes in detail the walk on the footpath opposite the school, through Powdermill Woods, on to the 1066 walk and back to the village. There are many interesting facts about the High Weald included in the leaflet, with things to look out for on the way.

You can’t fail to have noticed all the estate agent’s boards that have sprung up all around the village? However, on closer inspection they are a very eye-catching way to advertise the next major village event! Make a note in your diary of Saturday 7th July when the PTA hold the famous Catsfield School Fete from 12pm – 3pm at the playing field. Watch this space for all the details next week.
