The WI October meeting last Thursday was told that the Harvest Supper had raised £400 for our WI funds and over £200 from donations and the raffle for our 2010 charity, St Michael`s Hospice. Many thanks to everyone for their generosity.
The meeting agreed that we should adopt the charity providing Admiral Nurses, who support sufferers from Alzeimers and their families, for our 2011 charity.

Hide AdOur fund raising event in the Spring raised over £1000 and also made everyone aware of a little known organisation.
Paul Lendon`s talk, It`s Good to Talk, brought back a lot of memories of the old days of the GPO.
My neighbour Hazel told me that when she was working at the GPO exchange in Bexhill one night, she had to ask, when a call came in, Who is calling? The Maharajah, was the reply. Quick as a flash, she came back with, and I`m Grace Kelly!
Imagine her embarrassment when the caller explained he was a Maharajah, playing cricket for the subcontinent.

Hide AdIt was difficult to apologise enough! The next day there was an unexpected visitor to the telephone exchange –it was the Maharajah with a bouquet of flowers - for Grace Kelly.
Jane Overall gave our speaker a lovely vote of thanks, explaining that with her GPO links she had all sorts of esoteric GPO equipment in her loft.
Well there we are, we all knew where the seat of power in the village was anyway!
The Autumn Concert held in the church last Friday raised £300 for the Organ Restoration Fund.

Hide AdA mobile phone found in the Powdermill Woods on Tuesday morning on the 1066 sign post beside the Farthing Bridle Path has been left at the village shop.

On Sunday October 17th there is a concert at Crowhurst church performed by two West End stars in aid of St George`s refurbishment at 6.30pm. Annette Yeo and Ian McLarnon are currently appearing in Aspects of Love and Love Never Dies.
Tickets,.price £15, include wine and canapés.
This Sunday is the 20th after Trinity, the Parish Communion will be at the usual time, 9.15 am.
