Chloe under starter’s orders as the Carnival Queen race hots up

Angmering School student Chloe is in training for a road race in April, going out on five or six-mile runs around her home village of Angmering with her dad, Jamie and stepmum Eva every Sunday and a couple of times in the week.

She’s also a keen photographer, although carnival day, July 11, could see Chloe on the other side of the lens, if she is crowned Carnival Queen.

Family history could also be on Chloe’s side – her mum was Miss East Preston in 1990, and her brother and sister have been the prince and princess for East Preston Festival.

Littlehampton Carnival Association is organising the competition and wants to hear from young women keen to represent the town both at the carnival itself, and other community events. The competition is open to girls aged 14 to 17, living in a six-mile radius of Littlehampton.

The deadline for entries has been extended to March 12, to give more girls the chance to take part.

They are asked to complete the form (right) and send in their photo. Alternatively, they can enter on the Littlehampton Carnival Association official Facebook page.

Judges will select the queen by assessing entrants on personality, speaking ability and overall appearance. The two runners-up will serve as carnival princesses.

Last year’s Carnival Queen, Mariah Lee, of Littlehampton, had the privilege of leading the carnival’s 40th anniversary celebration, meeting former carnival ‘royals’, who travelled from far and wide for the occasion.

The new Carnival Queen will receive £200, a designer dress and day wear, the Cuff Miller Trophy and a replica trophy to keep, while the princesses will each receive £100, a designer dress, day wear and trophy.
