CHURCHES Together in Rye are holding a special lunch event to highlight the problem of world hunger and the divide between rich and poor.

The Rich World, poor World Lunch is being held at Rye Baptist Church on Saturday June 8 at 12.30pm.

People are invited to come along on the day and experience the luck of the draw as to whether they get a nourishing meal from the western world served up to them or a very simple meal typical of three quarters of the world.

Janet Waddams, who is helping to organise the event, said: “There will be a presentation on the day by Christian Aid.

“This event happens when the G8 group of national leaders is meeting in Belfast. It is also part of the IF Campaign backed by all the main charities. “

Tickets for the lunch cost £5 and are available in advance from in advance from Jane on 01797-225916, Janet on 10797-223188 or Kate on 01797-227955.

Rye Baptist Church is situated at Cinque Ports Street.

A Christian Aid spokesman said: “One in eight people on this planet lives with the pain of hunger, yet our planet provides enough food for everyone. It’s unfair and totally preventable.”
