Rye Harbour Sailing Club member Richard Hopper has been awarded the Royal Yachting Association Community Lifetime Commitment Award.

This is awarded to someone who has shown exceptional commitment and dedication to their club or organisation.

Richard joined Rye Harbour Sailing Club in 1986 and soon got himself fully involved in the club activities and became a member of the club management committee.

He was, and still is, very active in racing, cruisers and dinghies.

Rye Harbour Sailing Club Commodore Charles Bronsdon said: “At the time Richard joined the club membership numbers were declining.

But then Richard became Membership Secretary and with his hard work and attention to detail the membership has greatly increased over the years and the club has gone from strength to strength.

“Rye Harbour Sailing Club is part of Richard and with his support and knowledge the club has continued to promote the sport of sailing for all age groups within the community.

“We would like to say a big well done to Richard.”
