Council plans to build homes for first time in 24 years in Wick

Hastoe Housing Association and MH Architects from Chichester have been appointed to work with the council to look at proposals for new housing on several sites in Arun’s ownership across the district.

The first of the potential sites is within one of the large parking areas on the edge of Wick.

This could be developed to provide a number of predominantly two-bedroom council-owned houses for rent to help meet current demands.

Councillor Roger Elkins, cabinet member for housing, said: “I am pleased that, for the first time in more than 24 years, the council is starting to build homes for those most in need in Arun.”

As the houses will reduce the amount of parking, the council has started a parking survey to determine how much parking capacity is needed, and the proposals may include increasing parking capacity elsewhere around Wick.

The initial drawings for the proposed housing were displayed at the Keystone Centre and the civic centre reception area in December, 2013, when residents were invited to view the proposals and make comments.
