Councillor comments on Pulborough housing plan published to YouTube

The video shows a still picture of councillor David Jenkins, and plays a recording of a planning meeting held in February 2012.

On the recording, Mr Jenkins can be heard to say ‘I needed to let him ramble on because I needed to get it through’, in relation to the outline application for 103 homes in Stane Street, Pulborough.

The full proposal was latter submitted and approved in July 2014. It was at that development control meeting that the audio tape was first revealed by Pulborough resident Lorraine Dale who claimed that the application may have been predetermined.

She played it to the committee over the council chamber microphones.

Councillors immediately dismissed the recording, claiming it was inaudible, and a planning officer said that people will have to ‘accept’ the comments.

On July 17 this year, former Pulborough parish councillor Martin Dale announced that he would resign at a parish council meeting, citing the ‘unacceptable behaviour’ of Horsham District Council (HDC), in relation to Mr Jenkins’ 2012 comments.

The video has been published by a group of Pulborough residents.
