COUNTY NEWS: Appeal launched for clown's Sussex honeymoon

The countdown is on to this year's International Clown Festival in Sussex, an event that is set to be extra special for two participants.

Chair clown ‘Silly Tilly’, originally from Ireland, and new husband Jarl, from Denmark, are planning to have their honeymoon during the festivities in Bognor Regis, the seaside town where they first met.

Despite tying the knot on February 9, the pair have been patiently waiting to celebrate and their fellow clowns are on a mission to make it unforgettable.

“We are thinking it would be nice to get them a honeymoon suite,” said ‘Bubblz’, lead festival organiser. “We want to make it really special.”

This year’s festival is set to run from April 6 to 9 with workshops and events across the town.

A launch was held on Friday at the pier to highlight the event’s return, something Bubblz described as ‘absolutely lovely’.

She gave mention to the fact Hal Brooks, who turned 96 last month, was able to attend and thanked the pier for being ‘really accommodating’.

“There’s less than three weeks to go now,” said Bubblz. “We have been speaking to the schools and we have our first booking with them and I am going in to the Scouts.

“We will be running Q&A sessions where we will ‘clown up’ in front of them. It follows the horrible craze last year, which I will not name because that just makes it worse, but we are doing caring clowns with some of the students to help those who might be nervous.

“The thing I am excited about, and something we haven’t done before to my knowledge, is that we are doing a mini-circus for preschool age and we are doing a silver circus for the young at heart which will be on the Friday morning at The Regis Centre.

“You can get tickets at The William Hardwicke and in the Pier Arcade as well as on Eventbrite which is another first for us,” she added. “Plus the parade is looking fabulous and after that we have the picnic in the park which was fantastic last year.”
