With temperatures set to soar today and tomorrow, with parts of the country hitting highs above those expected in some favoured Mediterranean hotspots, the animals at Drusillas Park near Alfriston will be taking full advantage.

Many of them love to bask in the sun making the zoo the perfect place to hang out this weekend, with the south-east promised some of the best weather in the UK.

The colobus monkeys never miss a chance to loll about in the heat and their feeding platform provides the perfect place to recline. Plus Servals, Ninja and Kariba have settled into their brand new enclosure complete with a large rockery, which provides the perfect place to laze around on sunny days.

Much like our own beach-going nation, the zoo’s ring-tailed lemurs also love to sunbathe. They will waste no time basking in the heat with their arms and legs extended, in a manner indicative of the lotus position.

However, it’s the zoo’s two legged sun-lovers that are likely to be enjoying the hot spell most of all. As the temperatures have been rising over the last few days, children have been flocking to Drusillas’ new attraction, Get West! in order to cool down and chill out in the sunshine.

Get Wet! opened in March and is the ultimate splash pad experience. The colourful two hundred square metre installation replaces part of the old play area and includes a thrilling collection of water jets, ground geysers, twirling streams and spiralling sprays.
