COURT RESULTS: Round-up of cases from 1066 Country

The following are court results for the Observer area from Hastings Magistrates' Court from October 5 - October 6.

October 5:

Peter Smith (aged 50), of Hatherley Road, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to driving a Renault Megane on Carisbrooke Road, St Leonards, on September 13, while disqualified from driving. He also pleaded guilty to driving without insurance. He was fined £120 and his driving record endorsed with six penalty points.

Sergio Orza (aged 45), of Edmund Road, Hastings, pleaded guilty to driving a large goods vehicle on the Ridge, at Hastings, on August 21, while unfit to drive through drink. He was fined £120 and banned from driving for 18 months.

James Tyrrell (aged 23), of Battle Road, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to failing to stop after an accident in which two people were injured. The offence took place at Monks Walk, Winchelsea, on April 14. He also pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, driving with no insurance and to driving without due care and attention. He was sentenced to eight weeks in prison, suspended for a year, and ordered to pay £300 in compensation. He was also banned from driving for one year. The court made a community order with a requirement of 150 hours of unpaid work. Magistrates said the reason for the custodial sentence was due to the seriousness of failing to stop after an injury was caused to passengers and a vehicle was damaged.

Dean Adlington (aged 31), of Sackville Road, Bexhill, pleaded guilty to behaving in a violent manner in threatening to throw a hot drink over a police officer and threatening to punch a police officer. The offence took place at Hastings on September 15. He was fined £70 and ordered to pay £85 in costs.

Christopher Horn (aged 40), of Five Ashes, Mayfield, pleaded guilty to committing fraud. The offence took place at Halfords store, at Ravenside retail centre, Bexhill, on September 17. The court heard that he had selected an item he had not paid for and taken it to the till to obtain a refund of £6. He also pleaded guilty to driving a Vauxhall Corsa, at Bexhill, on the same date, while disqualified and to driving with no insurance. He was fined a total of £385 and banned from driving for 18 months. The court also made a community order with a requirement of 160 hours of unpaid work.

Jemel Upton (aged 35), of Ninfield Road, Bexhill, was sentenced to a total of 20 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to eight charges of theft and an offence of fraud. The court heard that he had stolen three Northface coats from Millets, at Hastings, on 17, 18 and 24 of August. He also stole four packets of steak, worth £31.56, from Lidl, Bohemia Road, Hastings, on August 24. He stole a white diamond ring, worth £2,000 and a gold ring, of unknown value, at Hastings on August 5 and a mountain bike, worth £650, from Hastings, on August 9. He stoke Manuka honey, worth £211.96, from Holland and Barrett, at Battle, on August 19. In addition he pleaded guilty to driving without a licence and without insurance at Mount Pleasant Road, Hastings on September 15. He was banned from driving for 11 months. Magistrates said the reason for the prison sentence was the high value of items that were stolen.

James Kemsey (aged 34), of the Cheviots, Hastings, pleaded guilty to driving a Renault Megane car at Queensway, Hastings, on September 19, while more than three times over the drink drive limit. He gave a breath alcohol reading of 123 microgrammes. The legal limit is 35mg. He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for one year, and fined £500. He was also banned from driving for 30 months.

Colette Saunders (aged 48), of Western Barn Close, Rye, pleaded guilty to driving a Lexus vehicle on Rye Harbour Road, Rye, on August 9, while over the drink drive limit. She gave a blood alcohol reading of 143 milligrammes. The legal limit is 80mg. She was fined £300 and banned from driving for 18 months.

Paul Cave (aged 46), of Sedlescombe Road, pleaded guilty to driving a Volkswagen car on Blackman Avenue, St Leonards, on September 15, while twice over the drink drive limit. He gave a breath alcohol reading of 76 microgrammes. The legal limit is 35mg. She was fined £400 and banned from driving for 18 months.

Sean Dulice (aged 31), of Milward Road, Hastings, pleaded guilty to being in possession of a quantity of cannabis resin. The offence took place at Hastings on June 6. He was fined £80 and ordered to pay £80 costs.
