A BRAZEN thief walked into a house and stole a purse from the kitchen while the owner was at home.
The woman discovered the man in the kitchen of her home in High Street, Battle, at 5.30pm on Tuesday (September 20).
When challenged, the man fled with the woman’s purse.
The victim’s son, who is in his 20s, gave chase down the High Street, but the thief escaped.
Police believe the man got into the property via the front door, which was left insecure.
Sergeant Paul Masterson said it was an opportunistic theft and added: “People need to make sure their doors are secured.”
The thief is described as white, aged about 30, around 5ft10” tall, of slim build, with spiky black hair.
He had a distinctive tattoo of a Chinese symbol on his neck and was wearing a white shell suit top at the time of the theft.
