Police warn Hastings and Rye residents after spate of burglaries

Police are urging residents in Hastings and Rye to be vigilant after a spate of burglaries in which angle grinders have been used to gain entry.

Since the beginning of the year, ten similar offences have been reported across North Wealden, Hastings and Rye districts, according to police

The majority have occurred in rural locations, with farm outbuildings and containers being targeted. A quantity of tools and quadbikes have been taken during the break-ins.

PCSO Georghiou said: “As we continue to gather information and build a picture around these reported crimes, we are keen to speak to anyone who has information related to similar offences.

“Whether you are a victim, or if you have witnessed any suspicious behaviour or vehicles in the vicinity, please do get in touch with us no matter how small you think the information is.

“Our team regularly patrol the rural areas of our communities, and these patrols have been stepped up in the targeted locations and at the key times when these offences have been taking place.

“We ask people to remain vigilant, to take steps to protect their property and to contact us if they have any concerns.”

Members of the public can report information to police online or by calling 101 – always dial 999 in an emergency. Information can also be passed anonymously to police via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
